Conservation works commence onsite at Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences
We are pleased to announce the commencement of a repair and maintenance project at the Old Pathological Institute, a declared monument, now home to the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences.
As the appointed Conservation Architect, we are excited to contribute to preserving this important piece of Hong Kong’s medical heritage. This project is funded under the Financial Assistance for Maintenance Scheme on Built Heritage by the Development Bureau.
Much of the historic fabric survives throughout two buildings, including a grand timber staircase, laboratory fixtures and fittings. The project will start with several enabling surveys, including paint analysis, mortar analysis, and timber species test to advocate best practice conservation. Repair works will then be followed to refurbish the interiors of the building, improve access to the roof void, and to rectify the defective underground drainage to keep the monument in good state of repairs.
