Purcell Appointed Heritage Conservation Consultant for King Yin Lei
Purcell have been engaged by Lead Architect, Ivanho Architect Ltd, as the Heritage Conservation Consultant for the revitalisation of King Yin Lei, a Declared Monument in Hong Kong.
This ambitious project involves repurposing this rare building, which beautifully merges art and architecture from both Chinese and Western cultures, into a Healthy Living Centre inspired by Pu’er Tea and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Our Hong Kong team are working closely with the Tianda Institute and wider consultant team to realise an ambitious vision to adapt this distinct and historic mansion. Following the completion of the rescue restoration works in 2010 after ownership of the site transferred to the Government through land exchange, the building had largely remained vacant with some selective public open days arranged throughout the past 10 years. Attempts have been made to revitalize the building since 2014 when it was first included in the Batch III of the Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme (“Revitalisation Scheme”), funded by the Government of HKSAR. However, it is not until 2022 under Batch VI that a suitable proposal was selected. This project signifies a commendable effort to preserve and adapt Hong Kongs historic structures.
