Purcell, Idle and Wonder, and Customs Bureau to present ‘The Glasshouse Urban Retreat’
A multi-disciplinary team led by Purcell, who have partnered with events studio Idle & Wonder and design studio Customs Bureau will launch the new hospitality concept at HIX LDN, hosted at Islington’s Business Design Centre this month.
The design concept, which draws from the BDC’s history as an agricultural hall, will be presented as a multi-media installation. Whilst the team is keeping most of the details under wraps until the big reveal, we can share that ‘The Glasshouse Urban Retreat’ is centered around urban farming innovations and a sensory, plant-based food and hospitality experience.
Senior Architect Oliver Beddard, who is working on the project with Head of Hospitality Nick de Klerk, said ’We’re focusing on the BDC as a hub of civic activity for Islington and the wider community. A station for people visiting, or a destination for those looking to find out more about moving towards a plant-based society -whether that’s reducing our impact and footprint on the planet -or reimagining the waste production process. It’s a luxury experience, but also a kind of factory for reinventing the way that we live; a test bed of how we can improve a sector that has become quite a damaging industry in a lot of ways.’
