Purcell’s C20 Expert Jon Wright speaks to Open City podcast
Last week our 20th Century Heritage Expert, Jon Wright, sat down with journalist and Open City podcast host Merlin Fulcher to talk through the latest big stories in London architecture, planning and housing news.
Topics covered included proposals for the part-demolition of Denys Lasdun’s Milton Gate (also known as his ‘glass castle’ - pictured), which have been protested by Historic England.
‘It’s worthy because of its provenance as a Lasdun work and he’s our most decorated post-war architect in terms of designation. This is pretty much his last project [...] it’s a quirk, Milton Gate, and it will be another quirk lost’ - Jon Wright
A longtime fan of the building, Jon was more than well placed to offer his insights. Other topics covered included newly announced plans to revamp the Barbican Centre, and the launch of Jon’s film, Another Catford, exploring the history and architecture of his local SE6 neighborhood.
