Brilliana Harley
Brilliana is a senior heritage consultant specialising in historic landscapes.
She has a keen interest in the holistic relationship between historic buildings and their surrounding context, believing that setting forms a pivotal contribution to character whether made up of ornamental pleasure grounds, sweeping parkland or a dense urban environment. She has a particular enthusiasm for the late 18th century Picturesque landscape movement.
This consideration of setting has translated into an expertise in landscape and townscape appraisal and Brilliana frequently leads on historic landscape assessments, Conservation Management Plans for landscapes and gardens and Conservation Area Appraisals. She regularly guides and advises on sensitive interventions within Registered Parks and Gardens, locally listed landscapes and Scheduled Monuments, believing that new design should be welcomed where it is significance-led and respectful of its heritage context.
Since joining Purcell in 2016, Brilliana has worked on and managed a range of project types, in addition to landscape and townscape appraisals, including Heritage Impact Assessments, Heritage Interpretation Strategies, Historic Building Recordings, Conservation Management Plans and a World Heritage Site Management Plan.
Brilliana is a fully accredited member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation and a member of the Georgian Group and Gardens Trust.
