Hui-Li Yeoh

Architectural Graduate

Upon completing her Master of Architecture from the University of Melbourne, Hui Li returned to her hometown in the heritage city of George Town, Penang, Malaysia. This is where she began her heritage conservation journey, working on the restoration of a historic fort. While spending countless hours on site, she was captivated by the multifaceted process of managing a national heritage site. From archival research and archaeological investigation to finding conservation solutions, site works, adaptive reuse, and the curation of interpretation materials, each step was a revelation.

What intrigues her most about heritage architecture are the stories embedded within these structures. She revels in the process of uncovering these narratives by reinstating building fabric to breathe new life into heritage buildings with a sustainable approach.

"I'm drawn to how conservation and adaptive reuse breathe new life into heritage sites, allowing them to open new pages of life. Every project is an opportunity to tell a new story and leave an indelible mark on history."

Now based in Melbourne, she actively supports the Purcell team in various project stages across cities in Australia. Hui Li has had the privilege of working on a diverse range of commercial projects in her career, allowing her to bring a fresh perspective to heritage architecture, balancing modern needs with preservation.

Outside of work, Hui Li is an avid explorer of new places and a connoisseur of local cuisines.

Currently, her focus is on building up her expertise and experiences in heritage conservation and sustainability within the team.
