Neil McLaughlin
Neil is an AABC conservation-accredited architect with over 10 years’ experience as a qualified architect working across a range of sectors and building types throughout London and beyond. Neil is passionate about historic buildings and understanding their evolution, including finding sensitive ways to improve their use and functionality, and has a collaborative approach to working with clients, contractors, and the wider design team.
Before joining Purcell in 2023 as an Associate Partner, Neil worked at Donald Insall Associates for 15 years where he worked on prestigious buildings including security upgrade work at Grade I listed The Royal Courts of Justice, and the reinstatement of the flood damaged Silver Gallery Art Deco interior within the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel. Neil has also worked on numerous other projects including improvements to private country and town houses, and designing around 30 new shopfronts around London.
Neil is currently working with Jamie Fobert Architects on the proposals to improve the visitor experience at the Grade I listed Royal Observatory Greenwich, as well as several other exciting projects.
As well as working on multiple award recognised projects including the Stirling Prize shortlisted London Bridge Station, Neil has been the conservation architect jury member for several awards including the RIBA Awards in 2019 and 2022, and is an assessor for the AABC for other architects wishing to be recognised for their conservation experience.
Neil especially enjoys working on buildings from the Georgian period, and as a proud father he encourages his daughter to appreciate the historic built environment and makes very good use of his National Trust membership at weekends.
